Experience the Roman Army up close – Antiquity Lab Graz

Schüler:innen zwischen 14 und 18 Jahren Studierende/Student:innen Workshops
Antiquity Lab Graz – Hands-on History

How did a small town on the River Tiber become a world empire? The answer lies in the Roman army. On 11 November 2025 from 09:30 to 11:00, the Antiquity Lab Graz invites you to discover the history of the Imperium Romanum in a unique way – interactive, lively and hands-on.

Without its perfectly organised army, Rome would never have risen to become a world power. Legionaries were not only soldiers, but also carriers of culture who spread technology, language and everyday culture throughout the entire Mediterranean region.

The workshop “The Roman Army – Power Factor and Culture Bearer in the Ancient Mediterranean” invites you to experience history in a lively way. Led by Margit Linder and Michaela Zinko, participants will immerse themselves in the lives of Roman legionaries: What strategies and structures made the army so powerful? How did the soldiers shape the empire – and what did their everyday life look like?

The highlight: In the interactive part, visitors can slip into the role of a Roman legionary themselves. With armour, sword and shield, history is not only told, but made tangible.

The course is open to pupils aged 15 and over and anyone interested in history. The participation fee is €7 per person.

Register now and secure your spot.
