Flüchtlingskoordinator Christian Konrad im Politik Cafè zur Situation in Österreich

Der Andrang im Cafè Promenade war enorm – kein Wunder, die Uni Graz hatte am 9. März 2016 zu einem höchstaktuellen Thema mit einem überaus interessanten Gast ins Politik Café geladen. Dr. Christian Konrad, Flüchtlingskoordinator der Bundesregierung, diskutierte mit Gastgeber Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Markus Steppan die aktuelle Lage und Herausforderungen für Österreich.

„Die Bilder aus Griechenland, das entlastet werden muss, machen mich sehr besorgt. Ich hoffe sehr, dass es in der EU zu einer Lösung kommt“, hielt der ehemalige Raiffeisen-Generalanwalt fest. Österreich werde von früh bis spät wunderbar verwaltet, wenn wir aber eine Notsituation haben, dann stehen wir an, kritisierte Konrad das stark förderalistisch gestaltete System und unterstrich die Bedeutung des Dialogs mit den Bürgermeistern. Angesichts der tragischen Schicksale sei es Menschenpflicht zu helfen, gleichzeitig müsse man auch die Angst vor dem Fremden ernst nehmen. „Österreich ist das drittreichste Land in Europa, wenn wir 90.000 Menschen nicht versorgen können, hört sich alles auf. Wer helfen will, der kann.“ Großen Respekt zollte er der Zivilbevölkerung: „Sie hatte sofort einen Plan zu helfen.“

Die Veranstaltungsreihe „Politik Café“ ist Teil der 7. fakultät, des Zentrums für Gesellschaft, Wissen und Kommunikation der Uni Graz.

On Tuesday evening, the Literaturhaus Graz hosted a reading and discussion of the book The Beauty and Elegance of the Austrian Federal Constitution. A Literary Commentary. The venue was filled to capacity, every seat taken, with an attentive and open atmosphere throughout the evening.

Festive spirit met scientific fascination as this year’s edition of the Christmas chemistry show “Chemical Life” transformed the stage of the Schauspielhaus into a lively laboratory. School classes and numerous other guests enjoyed an evening of surprising experiments and vivid insights into the chemistry of everyday life.
